Birchfield & the Environment :
Birchfield Interactive is committed to being a good neighbour, concerned for the community and environment. We continually strive to improve our social and environmental performance and try to ensure that our activities contribute to sustainable development.
During 2007, we:
|
Reduced our number of UK direct mail campaigns to schools by over 20%, saving over 6 tonnes of paper
-
Only used FSC paper from well managed forests for our direct mail campaigns. This paper was sourced from companies holding the PEFC trademark.
-
Assigned all printing to a company accredited with the IS0 14001 standard - an environmental management system providing a corporate framework for managing environmental responsibilities.
|
-
Introduced paper recycling bins throughout the office.
-
Asked staff to consider car-sharing or cycling to work, with showers provided on site.
-
Encouraged schools wherever possible to trial software, rather than ask the sales team to provide on-site demonstrations, thus eradicating unnecessary car journeys.
Earlier this year, we secured an agreement with a local farmer to set aside two acres for tree planting, thus further off-setting our mail shot activities. As part of this latter scheme, we will plant five trees every time we undertake a direct mail campaign. Some of our tree-planting activities are shown opposite.
We have also asked our landlord to consider buying electricity from a 100% renewable energy source.
